Samsung begins mass production of two new 30nm process NAND Flash chips
Samsung recently announced it would begin mass production of two models of 30nm process NAND Flash memory chip products. One double transmission technology of Flash product similar to DDR memory, Samsung declared that read bandwidth of this product is about 3 times the traditional Flash memory chips, DDR like single peak data transfer bandwidth up to 133Mbps MLC Flash memory chips, while the older Flash chips can only level of up to 40Mbps.
Even applying this chip to Flash card can also maintain 60Mbps sustained read rate, also about 17Mbps than traditional Flash memory chips three times faster times. This flash chip products both for smartphones, portable media players and other products, applies equally to SSD hard drives and other devices.
Another product of Samsung’s new Flash memory chip, it is the basic storage unit with each 3-bit data can be stored 3 memory flash chip technology products, than the usual 2-bit memory-type Flash memory capacity of 50%. But Samsung this product is primarily intended for removable storage devices, not high speed storage devices.
Samsung that early 3-bit Flash memory chips is mainly used on its 8GB microSDHC Flash memory card, and then gradually extended to a larger capacity it products such as USB Flash disk applications. But Samsung did not disclosed its application of DDR-Flash object, only saying only “some major OEM manufacturers” use this DDR Flash memory chips it.
There is speculation, Samsung called “some of the major OEM manufacturers”, including Apple, maybe. Apple has been one of Samsung important customers, who often beat in their own iPhone/iPod in products such as Flash memory chip enables Samsung’s newest technologies products.
