ODF editor support Microsoft’s OOXML: former and latter symbiotic
According to foreign media reports, the Open Document Format (open document format, hereinafter referred to as ODF) Edit patelike·dulusang (Patrick Durusau) recently published an open letter. in his letter, Durusan strongly support Microsoft’s Open Office XML (hereinafter referred to as OOXML) document format as international standards, and that ODF and OOXML are wing, a loss for both sides.
Durusan wrote: “as an editor of OpenDocument format documents, I would like to promote OpenDocument, carry forward the advantage of it, and as far as possible, expand its range of use.” He said that if Microsoft’s OOXML fails, this also means that OpenDocument failed. and if OOXML through ISO tests, the OpenDocument will therefore benefit from.
Earlier, Durusan had called for the pros and cons of mutual cooperation, and that support for OOXML’s open letter is more strong indication of his attitude. Durusan said the ISO again to reject OOXML will not bring any good. He said: ” Current OpenDocument spreadsheet documents there is no uniform specification. many core financial data in a spreadsheet can export only by Excel. export results will vary based on Excel version differ. If OpenDocument and OpenXML come to different results on these data, what should I do? “
Now ISO members are considering endorsing and accepting OOXML as international standard. critics say for OOXML document format, that document format is Microsoft proprietary, so cannot become standards. ISO members voting deadline is March 29.
As a competitor of Microsoft’s OOXML, ODF is supported by the IBM standard for open source documentation format. Microsoft have accused IBM plotted attacks against OOXML, and said that if it’s not IBM we, OOXML has received ISO approval.
