The SanDisk 4 GB Extreme III SDHC Card with MicroMate USB 2.0 Reader is a great set. Sandisk cards average about $15 to $20 more per card than some of the off-brands like transcend and dane-elec. If you don’t have an SDHC reader, this set includes a reader for your computers that aren’t SDHC compatible. If not you can just transfer your pics directly from your camera with your card still inserted. In general I would still choose SanDisk over that one or even over PNY and Kingston.

As long as your devices are compatible with the SDHC format, this card is a great buy. 4 GB is a nice size though I do prefer 8 GB capacity for high capacity storage. Sandisk is generally very reliable in honoring their warrantees, though I have yet to have an issue with their SD or SDHC memory cards.

The class 6 speed is the fastest speed available in mass market SDHC cards. Class 6 guarantees minimum transfer speeds of 6 MBs, but I’ve gotten speeds up to 20Mbs! That’s based upon sequential reads and writes, which isn’t totally realistic but still possible to attain in some circumstances. That makes this card perfect for storing pictures in RAW image formats.

General SDHC and SD Card Tips

There are a few tips that I’ve learned the hard way through buying TOO MANY different memory cards.
1. Make sure your device is compatible with the card! Even in regular SD cards, some older electronics aren’t compatible with that large of a size (2 GB). In terms of SDHC cards, make sure your camera or other device is SDHC compatible. SDHC is different from regular SD and only newer devices tend to have built-in compatibility
2. Once you install this in your camera or device, you will generally want to format the card with your compatible device’s interface. That is because the standard formats for certain devices, particularly Canon, are different from the factory installed format
3. Just like your devices, most computer SD card readers are not compatible with the SDHC format. So use a card reader or download the pictures via USB connection to the camera with the card still installed.
4. For some reason, placing the card in the locked position allows some older laptops to still read it. This is just to be used in a pinch however, and it won’t apply to all systems
5. If you did not properly format your card, you may be able to save things to it and then have them “disappear.” If this happens to you, make sure you use the software recovery tools BEFORE you try to save anything else to your card. That way, you can retrieve your images without over-writing them.
6. Make sure you know what you are going to use this card for. Once you have set up everything and ensured it’s all compatible, you still have to decide on speed. If you are using this for storing RAW images instead of JPEGs or HD video, step up to the faster class 6 speed format if you can afford it.
7. If you are going to pay more for a faster speed, make sure your device can benefit from it. For example, some Kodak cameras are set to a fixed voltage and cannot go faster than standard speed. So the extra cash spent on Class 4, 5, or 6 is basically wasted.

Conclusion

It’s great to start off your SDHC card collection with a set like this that includes a spare reader. It’s also a good idea to have several extra cards on hand just in case. This 4 GB card is a nice performer. If you have a high capacity camera (10 Megapixels or more) and are storing videos or RAW images, the extra cash for the 8GB card is worth it. Or you may want to step up to the larger 16 GB size that is now available.

Enjoy!

Card itself seems fine. I bought this package instead of some of the cheaper standalone cards because I wanted the extras.

Sadly the MicroMate card reader is too wide to fit in some USB ports (including those on the front panel of my dell desktop and the side panel of my dell laptop).

If the RescuePro software crashes on startup, be sure to go into Windows Data Execution Prevention options and opt-out the rescuepro.exe to resolve the crash.

I’ve only used it once so far, but the card reader is a really nice deal because you don’t need to turn your camera on to download the pictures or whatever to your computer; which is a big deal for travelers! Also, it comes with a small carrying case, nice bonus!

I’m a filmmaker, and I’m often transferring digital files (music, pics, mpeg footage) between Macs and PC’s, in addition to sometimes watching things on my Treo

I purchased a SanDisk Plus USB card last summer and I’m in love with this sucker!

I have a Treo, Mac laptop, and digital camera — the card can literally be swapped between all three devices, transfering files from one to the other

However, the USB slot is a very welcome feature! The card is a bit fragile, but as long as you’re gentle, the card’s USB slot fits excellently into all USB ports and gives very quick access and transfer speeds — this has made file swapping between my Treo, Mac, and other PC’s a complete breeze!!!

The best part is that the card plays nice between PC and Mac, and can still go in and out of Treos and Digital Cameras

And lastly, the card is very durable — again, you have to be gentle when placing the USB stick into a slot, but the card folds up and is as solid as any regular SanDisk card — although I don’t use it, SanDisk also provides a very useful key chain, which is a tiny case that will keep your card protected, while dangling off of your keys (if you like)

I highly recommend it!

Peace and love to you all!

I saw this and thought I would gamble as this small a device with USB plug just had to be “flimsy” but it wasn’t. Its solid when broken in half for plugging into the usb and it plugs in firm as well. someone else mentioned a speed issue which I didn’t notice but I wasn’t holding a clock to it iether.

I bought this for my new treo 700w and it works great, very simple no software smooth as silk!

I was looking for a large capacity card for my Canon SD600 camera as I’ve quickly found the video clips that it captures to be a fun an useful feature. I’ve had good results with other Sandisk Ultra CF cards, so it is already a brand I trust.

This card has proven a good match for the SD600. I can get over 700 images or over 17 minutes of video capture on an empty card. It gives me the flexibility to switch between video and image to capture the moment.

The USB capability is a great feature as it means I can dump pictures onto a computer without having to worry about a card reader. For a few bucks more than the non-USB card, I think it is definitely worth while.

I’ll keep this review short, since no one really wants to read alot. This is a great memory stick. Its cheaper than alot of others, holds a ton of stuff, and, it works with the PSP great. I know there has been some trouble with 4gb Sticks not workin well with the newer PSPs, but this one worked perfect with mine. Im able to hold 6 full lenght movies (most over 2 hours), with room for a 7th.

There’s not much to say…. i mean; computers detect it ezly, it loads fast,… I just dont see the use of getting one more expendsive for there is no difference [except the bigger pain in ur pocket]. Getting one more expendsive is buying the mark only..and remember that it will always be hidden inside ur device.
Admittedly the color is distinct at best, ridiculous at worst. But who cares if its hardly displayed anyway?
I’ll recomend this to all.

If you are not familiar with the SD cards, you should know that the panasonic was the company that first started this flash memory industry. They are the best and most reliable SD cards you can ever find. They have a bit expensivier price compared to other major producing companies (Sandisk, Toshiba, etc) but its well worth it. I have Tungsten T3 PDA and when I ran a memory speed test on all the SD cards I had owned (Kingston, Panasonic, Sandisk, etc) Panasonic was a LOT faster than any one of them + more stable. If you want really good SD card you can use over and over, buy Panasonic. If you have a lot of time on your hand with small budget, I recommend Lexar or Kingston SD cards (I have good experiences with them both). The quality of panasonic SD cards is unquestionable. Its only the price that changes few peoples mind……….

How can you go wrong with panasonic? YOU CAN’T! They are the best electronic producers around, in my opinion. This little card is great. I use it in my GPS to store maps…fast upload, there is no drag time. It’s storage capacity is great too, I’ve got 6 different maps saved on it, of two to four states at a time. It’s a great product and a really great price! I will forever buy panasonic, forget the other guys…if you want reliability and confidence, buy panasonic.

From the Manufacturer

The rugged desktop ioSafe Solo external hard drive brings disaster protection to a price range that everyone can afford. With capacities from 500GB to 1.5TB, the ioSafe Solo can safely protect precious family photo albums, music libraries and days of video memories. For business, the ioSafe Solo is a great way to protect customer databases or to secure regulated information including patient records (HIPAA, Sox, etc) or credit card information. Businesses use the Solo hard drive as a backup and storage device, no longer worrying about data loss from moving computer tapes and files offsite. Like other ioSafe products, the ioSafe Solo uses ioSafe patented technology including FloSafe air flow cooling, HydroSafe waterproof barriers and the DataCast fireproof insulation.

ioSafe Fire normal operation

ioSafe Fire Safe Mode

Fireproof Data Storage Design
The Achilles heel for electronic devices is cooling. As electronics get faster and hard drive disks spin faster, the heat generated increases. To protect electronics from a disaster such as fire, however, you need insulation. Once insulation is placed around an electronic component, even with a very small amount of energy, the inside temperature can get incredibly hot. To solve this problem, ioSafe developed and patented several technologies.
All ioSafe products are fireproof and can keep your data safe through the use of ioSafe’s patented FloSafe vent technology, proprietary DataCast insulation or patent-pending MirrorGuard technology. Key to these technologies is the ability to protect your data automatically and without electrical power. Some or all of these technologies are included in ioSafe products.

FloSafe – The patented FloSafe cooling vent technology provides cooling air flow through the enclosure and across the disk drives during normal operating conditions. If destructive heat levels are sensed, such as in a fire, the FloSafe vents automatically close and protect the data from the extreme heat.

DataCast – The proprietary DataCast endothermic insulation technology protects data from extreme heat. . The DataCast formulation forms a chemical bond with water molecules that, at temperature above 160°F, releases water vapor to limit the internal temperature of the unit. This enables the ioSafe data storage product to protect your data from heat damage while the unit is engulfed in fire.

MirrorGuard – The patent-pending MirrorGuard technology used in our ioSafe 3.5 internal hard drive line provides a reflective heat shield to deflect over 98 percent of the radiant heat from a fire, thus preventing destruction of the data stored within the device.

Waterproof Data Storage Design

Water protection for the ioSafe disaster-proof products consists of 2 different levels of protection:

Flood Protection – Full immersion in water or saltwater

Spray/Splash Protection- Water hose spray from sprinklers or the fire department

ioSafe uses a patented water barrier technology call HydroSafe to protect your data. HydroSafe technology is designed to protect data loss from fresh or salt water damage, including full immersion. Simultaneously, HydroSafe technology still allows the heat dissipation required by all computer hardware during normal operation.
All ioSafe products are inherently flood resistant and designed to prevent water from damaging the data. The FloSafe vents can be closed or open – it doesn’t matter.

Server Failure & Virus Protection Server hardware failure is an unfortunate reality that needs to be accounted for. With hard drives, it’s not a question of “If” so much as “When” a hard drive will fail. Reliability continues to be improved by the major hard drive manufacturers but the reality is: a hard drive is a mechanism, all mechanisms fail eventually. ioSafe provides a simple and efficient way of backing up primary server data against server failure with the added benefit of disaster protection.
The ioSafe product line helps protect against malicious viruses by providing a redundant storage location for your primary hard drive. ioSafe highly recommends that you install any major brand of virus protection software (Norton, McAfee, etc.) as your first line of virus protection. If a virus does compromise your primary data, the ioSafe provides an onsite disk based copy for simple and fast restore. This means no digging through tapes or trickling data back from an online storage location.
If your primary server fails, simply restore the backup from an ioSafe unit per the software manufacturer’s recommendations. This technique can reduce downtime to minutes rather than days or weeks.
There are many different choices of backup software that are compatible with ioSafe products. Virtually any software that supports disk based backup will work. Contact ioSafe directly to learn more how our unique product line can help protect your data.

Compatible with almost all backup programs that work with external hard drives. A combination of patented and patent pending ioSafe technologies work to allow for airflow cooling during normal operation yet protect the data from fire and floods. FloSafe vents are open during normal operation. Active cooling is provided by a near silent fan that drives air through the FloSafe vents. During a fire event, the patented FloSafe vents automatically close to prevent extreme outside heat from damaging the hard disk inside the enclosure. DataCast is our proprietary endothermic insulation that vaporizes embedded water molecules during a fire and works hard to protect the inner hard drive from damage even though the outside temperatures spike to over 1500.

I got this 80X SD Card for my Canon SD450, and it’s working great. I researched a lot about high speed SD cards and found this the best value for money. Also, I compromised with a 1 GB card because I think it’s quite enough.

I have used several cameras (using SD, XD cards or sony’s memory stick), and each time I have been transferring the pics there is a very long pause. NOT anymore! On a USB 2.0, transferring the first 150 pictures (each 2+ MB) from my camera to my computer took less than a minute.

For those of you who don’t know 80X equals 80 X 150KB = about 12 MB per second speed. I am sure faster cards will give better performance but I don’t think you need anything faster than this for the money you pay. Also, shooting using the burst mode (taking 15 pictures in less than 8-10 secs) was a breeze. I researched a lot for these cards and I think this is a good deal. I bought it from one of the outside vendors at Amazon (thememstore) and they gave me good service for a good price.

This review is from: Transcend 1 GB 80x SD Flash Memory Card (Electronics) I got this 80X SD Card for my Canon SD450, and it’s working great.
