Q: compared with Google or Amazon, your cloud computing services add value to what?

Ballmer: cloud computing market is divided into several different areas. We can see them as a whole, but they’re really not a whole. Applications including cloud infrastructure, hardware infrastructure, and application software. Google’s main advantage is the application layer, we compete with them.

Q: what competition?: in the Office? Consumer likes free Google applications.

Ballmer: in the large enterprise market, we do better. We’re doing really good. Google’s product is defective, they lack a lot of things is important to customers, such as security and compliance. We are at the leading, but this does not mean that we can once and for all. 2010 is indeed very important. We plan to launch this year a group of cloud products. We have developed a product peer cloud with the desktop product, it is very important.

Q: how Amazon there? they walk in the forefront in this area, how are you going to make myself stand out in infrastructure?

Ballmer: If you want to design new applications for cloud infrastructure software must not find Amazon, since it cannot do this. Amazon does not understand the meaning of private clouds. This is indeed very unpleasant, because now people will never say they are going to put critical applications on the cloud.

Q: but now no one can win public/government sector clients. Los Angeles is an exception.

Ballmer: software application in the Federal Government has many relatively small, it’s not a whole body. Hope the Federal Government will allow data between the application and other sensitive applications are different. Q: what are your top priorities in Washington?

Q: are you concerned about the Federal Communication Commission of what is happening as well as the progress made in the net neutrality issue?

Steve Ballmer: I have with the Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski talked a few times. But I’m not sure they decide what to do, these specific problems of the solutions has a great impact on our business. But this does not mean I am particularly concerned about the problem. The final solution to these problems may be acceptable to us.

Q: you said the next few months there will be some tablets and Smartphones. How do you fall behind, and how to catch up?

Ballmer: we need to work with hardware partners and partner of Silicon Valley, we have to support Tablet PC platform. Windows to run Windows applications. The key is that we have the software technology, we need to be integrated with software, hardware and Silicon.

Smartphones are somewhat different, I have said many times before, we missed opportunities in this area. We do not do very well. We will sell millions of phones this year, but we did not achieve the desired objectives. This is about a lot of people, many people did a good job. We will support Windows Phone 7 for the next few months on the market, there will be many smartphones based on Windows Phone 7.

Ballmer: do you wish a company is operating well, and would like it to be perfect, but no company is perfect.
